Above is the last remaining untranslated note from Turnip Bellwater. A note recovered from a Rotted who was once a artist. They voluntarily released the note into AHA custody after the phrase "The painted rythmn" was repeated back to them.
The Rot - AHA Overview
Note that the research here is founded in the works of Turnip Bellwater and her reporting during the Weeping and her personal insights into the disease before she fell victim to it. This is widly regaurded as the best source of Rotting information, though there are no other sources to compare these findings to. As such, Turnip's notes are transcribed here with little change. It should also be noted that Turnip was reported to have a flair for the dramatics, even in academic writings. And as some notes were taken in the thralls of sickness, it is hard to ascertain exactly how much of the research here is truth.

Nevertheless, we thank Turnip Bellwater and the Bellwater family for their sacrifices and never ending fight to find the truth.

Below follow the notes of Turnip Bellwater.
The Rot
They are FeyFolk distilled to their most core components - flesh. A Rottling is not hard to miss, even in the early stage. Spreading from the Point Of Contact (POC) be it a scratch, bite, or any other injury, someone infected with the disease will begin to have problems with eyesight and growths will begin to form all over their skin.

Stages

Stages are listed below as 'phases'.

Phase 1 (0–5 days)

This stage is subtle, and was a major reason as to why the disease spread as quickly as it did. Sufferers are generally non to minorly symptomatic.

General symptoms include:

  • Increased light sensitivity
  • Decreased fear of heights
  • Infected may report feeling cold even as their bodies warm up
  • By the time the victim reports having sight problems, it is likely that they are already mentally deteriorating

Contagion: This stage is highly contagious. The infection is spread via spores emitted from infected urine, blood, or spit.

Unusually susceptible feyfolk:

  • Blind or hard of seeing folk (elderly, underground animals, etc.)
  • Animals from generally colder habitats, though they are also less likely to be exposed

Phase 2 (6–7 days)

  • Infected sight begins to go — only very bright things (i.e. the sun) are visible to them
  • Infected become abnormally interested in religion. Groups of infected may begin to sing in complex harmonies, even though most have no reported history or background in music
    • These songs consist only of tones, not words. Once a victim has begun to sing, they are considered dead

Phase 3 (7+ days)

Victims search for high places to allow their body to waste away using smell. Once at a high enough vantage point, they will begin sending spores and piss to spread the infection.

Above is a recreated sketch created by Turnip. Unclear when the sketch was made but it look the place of notes 3 days before the Rot won.

Prevention and Recovery

No such breakthrough seems to exist currently for recovery. Only means of prevention, which vary greatly due to faction.

AHA note as of {fake date} via Stewart Inkpot of Courier Brigade from the Kingdom of Osteon. On a whole, we are unable to confirm the reports of this message, however in line with our doctrine and in lieu of other information we will add the following note here.

" In recent years, groups have begun to cut down trees in an effort to contain or hinder the suspected cause of Rot. Because of this, Rottlings are beginning to roam the open areas and show a change in behavior. "
